RMBBQA News
Primary Election is Cancelled
Because there were only 2 candidates which is less than the total number of candidates needed there is no reason to
continue with the election.
Congratulations to Steve Marrs and Michael St.Cyr! Their names will move forward to the main Board Election ballot in December.
RMBBQA BOD Looking for Fresh Meat
Our By-Laws were recently changed to allow the Board of Directors to accept self-nominations from members in good standing for expiring
positions on the Board.
Self-nominations will be accepted starting tomorrow (September 1st) and continue through September 21st. If you are interested please submit
your intent to run and a short (100 words or less) position statement to
electionofficial@rmbbqa.org and your name will be added to the primary ballot. You can view the pre-election ballot and meet the candidates at
RMBBQA.org/vote.
Voting in this primary will take place from September 22nd through October 6th and will be open to all members in good standing. Voter Authorization
Codes (VAC) will be emailed to members in two weeks.
The primary election will select the candidates necessary for a full and fair final election in December. Incumbents are not required to run in the
primary election.
Beth Lenz Resigns from RMBBQA Board
On April 16, 2010, the RMBBQA Board of Directors reluctantly received and accepted Beth Lenz's resignation from the RMBBQA Board. Beth's
contributions to our society and its membership are without number, and we are a better and stronger organization for her hard work and
dedication. For personal reasons, however, Beth has decided to focus her considerable energy, experience, and skills on advancing the cause
of Rib-It, the team Beth and her husband Mark Lenz successfully operate - competition teams beware! - and fully expects to remain highly active
and involved with the association.
At the regular Board of Directors meeting held 17 April 2010, Laura Jay was selected to fill the role of Secretary for RMBBQA.
The Board would like to wish Beth, her husband Mark, and Team Rib-It all the best in this and upcoming BBQ seasons, and looks forward to working
with them in the future!
Mark Welte Resignation
The Board of Directors for the Rocky Mountain BBQ Association would like to announce that Mark Welte, the Association's past president and a
founding member, has resigned from the board effective immediately. Mark served as the president of the Association from the inception of RMBBQA
until 2009, when he resigned as president due to time constraints.
The Board wishes Mark the very best of luck and will continue to utilize Mark as a resource in the future. The board would also like to thank Mark
for his years of service. The Association has benefited greatly from Mark's vision and leadership.
In a special meeting held on January 23rd, the board voted to defer to the election results to determine the replacement, pending acceptance. Laura
Jay was pleased to accept the board position and will replace Mark immediately. We look forward to working with Laura in the future.
2009 RMBBQA Board Election Results
The RMBBQA Board would like to thank all of the candidates who ran for the board: Rudy Duran, Laura Jay, Kevin Keeling*, Beth Lenz*, Michael
St. Cyr, and Mark Welte*. (Incumbents are noted by an asterisk behind their name.)
The 2009 elections ended at midnight on December 31st, with 47% of members voting. All three of the incumbents were re-elected. Congratulations
to Kevin Keeling, Beth Lenz, and Mark Welte.
The Board would like to thank Rudy Duran with Los Nerds, Laura Jay with Lizzie Q, and Michael St. Cyr with Chibi-Q. The Rocky Mountain BBQ
Association is lucky to have members who are devoted to the organization and willing to volunteer to serve on the board. We are sure to see these
members continuing to provide valuable support to the organization.
The next RMBBQA Board Meeting will occur on January 9th, 2010. The meeting is being held in Castle Rock at the Philip S. Miller Library, 100 S.
Wilcox, and will begin at 9:00 a.m. All members in good standing are welcome to attend meetings.

for the board.

New Website, New Look, New Logos!
The Board of Directors for the Rocky Mountain BBQ Association would like to introduce you to our new website. While the last website was wonderful, it took a lot of work just to keep it going. We also encountered issues with some of the new programs that we have introduced, such as the Judges' Liaison Program and online voting. Please take some time and explore the new website. There are some things we would like to point out:
- Under the tab at the top of the page titled, What We Do, you will find Contests & Results. The new website allows us to upload RMBBQA Cup results very quickly! In most instances, you will find the results here prior to finding them on any forum. Under this tab, you will also find links to all of the Cup Contests, a listing of scheduled CBJ Classes, and some online resources.
- Under the Who We Are tab, you will find convenient links to the current Board of Directors, as well as membership applications, current Cup rules and the association by-laws.
- The Forum tab will take you to the new Forum. You will find most messages from the old forum are now on the new forum. Navigation on the new forum is very similar and your log-in information from the old site will work on the new site.
- The JLP tab will take you to the Judges' Liaison Program. This program allows BBQ judges to manage their judging experience.
You will also notice on the main page that we have two new logos. The first logo is the banner at the top of the page. This logo was designed by RMBBQA member, Vyvyan Brunst, and works exceptionally well for our website, name tags, and letter head, although we will be offering RMBBQA promotional items with this logo. The second logo is on the top right of the main page. This logo was designed by Patrick Carlson, www.bbqlogos.com, and was designed specifically for promotional items.
Another change coming soon: By the 15th of July, we will have a link on the website to the RMBBQA Online Store. You will be able to order from a large selection of promotional items, from sweatshirts to coffee cups. In the future, we will look at a special "group buy" on RMBBQA Shot Glasses! If you are interested, please contact any board member and we will add your name to the list for this purchase!
We hope you enjoy the new website! The Board would like to thank Kevin Keeling and Mark Welte for the hard work they have put into setting up the old site and creating this new site. We would also like to extend our thanks to Vyvyan for our great new logo! If you would like to provide feedback on the new website, please feel free to contact any board member. Remember, links can be found on the Who We Are link.
2009 RMBBQA Cup
The RMBBQA board of directors finalize the 2009 RMBBQA Cup. New this year teams only have to compete in 5 contests. Plus there will be two WILD CARD
contests drawn at random where if you competed in one or both of them your score will be increased.
The board also announced a new "RMBBQA Shot Glass Division" Any team competing in at least two contests, but less than five, will be in this division.
The winner will receive $200.
Judges' Liaison Program
The Rocky Mountain BBQ Association is proud to announce the Judges' Liaison Program. The JLP is designed to provide a single contact point for
judges wishing to judge RMBBQA Cup Contest events.
By completing a single application judges can sign up to judge multiple events. For each event they sign up to judge their name is entered on a
first-come-first-served weighted list. Weight factors include the date and time of sign up, if they are a CBJ, or if they have judged this event last
year.
After completing the application judges receive an automated email response with their JLP Code and a list of events they signed up to judge. By using
their JLP Code judges can login to the JLP and manage their judging experience.
